Shute won the 1933 Open Championship at St Andrews defeating Craig Wood in a 36-hole playoff. Shute also won back-to-back PGA Championships in 1936 and 1937. Shute was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2008. Shute was the last player to successfully defend the PGA Championship until Tiger Woods in 1999-2000.
